What is the difference between the Cobalt and the regular Linux Servers?
There are advantages and disadvantages to both types. The Cobalt servers are very easy to use, they require no technical expertise. The Cobalts do everything for you such as rotating logs, virtual control panels and more. The are basically maintenance free. The Cobalts are also more secure then the regular linux boxes. The disadvantages of the Cobalts are; they are more expensive, they are not upgradeable (the os, kernal, perl etc… are not upgradeable), they are not modifiable as many of the existing services have Cobalt specific things that cant be changes, they are not hardware upgradeable except for adding memory, they are not quite as fast at cgi scripts (they are fine for normal websites but not good for developers or huge cgi scripting demands). Most people choose Cobalts for their ease of use and maintenance free features. Both the Cobalt and regular linux servers use linux so there is no difference in the os. The regular linux servers advantages are; they are upgradeable both
