Calving ease is a measure of the ability of an animal to be born without assistance. Maternal calving ease is a measure of an animals daughters ability to calve without assistance. For example if we are keeping replacement females from a sire, we are first interested in their being born without help (CE) and then eventually entering the cowherd and calving without help (MCE).
