What is the difference between test of significance & levels of significance in statistics?
these two are different things but they do have relationship. i think what you really mean of “test of significance” is when the statement says “test the significance that….” that is the whole process of inference in which you will be able to support or reject your claim from given sample of data.. this has steps to follow and to consider. Testing for significance also uses different statistical methods which depends on the different assumptions and how are you going to analyze the data. Now this is where the level of significance comes in. when you are going to do a test involving inference or estimates, you have to consider the errors that might be accompanied with the data that you have gathered. So when you say you are “95% confident” about your conclusion then your level of significance would be 0.05 which we call as alpha or type I error in statistical language. Level of significance corresponds to the value for which one chooses to reject or accept the null hypothesis. This wi
