What is the difference between Taconics GLP MAP test, and RapidMAP tests?
Both of these tests seek to determine the same answer: does the test article contain any murine viral contaminants? These tests can be performed on cell lines (tumors, hybridomas) or biological products like ascites. The GLP MAP tests are in-vivo tests based on the FDA guidelines and are performed to GLP standards. These tests take about 8 weeks to complete, due largely to the timeframe necessary for the host to develop an immune response to any viruses that may be present. RapidMAP tests are performed in the laboratory using a Real Time PCR platform. Since these tests look for and amplify viral DNA, they can be completed in a much shorter timeframe, typically within two weeks. PCR-based testing for viral contaminants is not yet an accepted method for FDA submissions, but is an economical and effective test to support animal facility health surveillance.
