What is the difference between tables 1 and 5 in the Quarterly Business Review (QBR)?
Table 1 shows gross business income data by major industry grouping, and Table 5 shows business and occupation (B&O) tax data by major industry grouping. Gross business income equals a firm’s combined reported gross income for the retail sales, B&O, and public utility taxes. The B&O data are just one component of gross income. The B&O tax is a gross receipts tax. It is measured on the value of products, gross proceeds of sale, or gross income of the business.
