What is the difference between Synthetic and Simulant diamonds?
Synthetic diamonds are lab created. They contain carbon, just like mined diamonds. They contain the same physical, chemical and optical qualities of mined diamonds. So technically they are real diamonds. Their only difference from the mined ones is the origin-in the lab. Depending on how they are made, they can be inferior, similar to, or even superior to mine diamonds. They are still expensive. Mined diamonds can be about $20,000 per carat. Synthetics can still cost $2-6Kper carat. Simulants are also lab created, but they containpolycrystalline instead of carbon. They are much cheaper than synthetics diamonds.
