What is the difference between Supervised and Unsupervised Coursework?
Supervised Coursework: • Students are given advance notification of the area to be assessed and are often provided with further information to assist in their preparation. • The actual performance of the assessment takes place under conditions similar to examinations although students are often permitted to take refer to a much wider range of materials during the assessment. Unsupervised Coursework: • Students are given a piece of work such as an essay, a problem question etc. and required to prepare an answer in a given time scale normally within a maximum number of words. • They are required to prepare their answer by conducting research in their own time and using their own initiative. • Students are not permitted to discuss the coursework with any other person prior to submission.
