Moira Merrithew co- founded STOTT PILATES in 1988 with her husband Lindsay. For many years she studied under Pilates Elder Romana Kryzanowska upon leaving her career as a young professional dancer. She began to experience discomfort in her neck, which prompted her to look for ways to alleviate and prevent pain while doing Pilates. After collaborating with physical therapists and sports medicine professionals, Moira and her team developed a few slight modifications, some of which are present today in the Basic Principles of STOTT PILATES. These help people achieve a good understanding of where their neutral zones are, which helps them get the maximum benefit from Pilates.
