What is the difference between Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS)?
The main difference between SAN and NAS lies in their functions. SAN is used primarily for transferring large blocks of data quickly, while NAS is directed more towards the movement of small file blocks between peers. Using a 10 gigabit Ethernet link, NAS can be adapted to serve similar functions to SAN. However, this can introduce performance constraints when high volumes of data are moved across the network.
