What is the difference between SPECjAppServer and ECperf?
The SPECjAppServer2001 is based on erstwhile ECperf 1.1 benchmark, and simulates a real-world manufacturing enterprise. The application uses several complex capabilities of EJB 1.1. The benchmark workload presents a good mechanism to compare the performance of various application servers. This is a major consideration in enterprise purchase decisions. Customers can also extrapolate the ECperf workload to their individual application characteristics and make sizing inferences. Changes were made to the ECperf 1.1 code and metrics to comply with SPEC’s run and reporting rules. Strict data concurrency, that requires vendors to submit non-data stomping results, is mandated as part of SPECjAppServer2001. For more information, visit http://www.spec.org/osg/jAppServer2001.
