What is the difference between solar hot water and solar PV?
They are totally different forms of technology. Solar hot water uses a black absorbing surface (i.e. the panels on the roof) to heat water from the visible and infra-red (heat) portion of sunlight. Solar PV cells use sunlight to generate direct current which is then converted to alternating current and used within the home or fed back to the electricity grid.
