On the Insole of all New Balances, a combination of numbers and letters SL-1 or SL-2 or some variation refers to the Shoe’s last it was built on. The SL-1 last tailors the heel, instep, toe box height, and forefoot height to the average foot, the SL-2 last has a narrow heel, high instep, deep toe box, and wider forefoot.
