What is the difference between simple, compound and complex sentences?

I shall do my best. I taught 6th grade pre-AP this year, so hopefully I can remember what was in the curriculum. A simple sentence has a simple subject and a simple predicate only. Example: The big red dog (simple subject) ran up the street (simple predicate). One noun and one verb. A compound sentence is a sentence with compound subjects and predicates. Example: The big red dog and the tiny yellow cat (compund subject) can up the street and jumped over the fence (compund predicate). More than one subject and more than one verb. A complex sentence is one that involves a dependent clause. Example: As quickly as possible (dependent clause), the big red dog and the tiny yellow cat ran up the street and jumped over the fence to escape animal control (another dependent clause). I hope I’m right about this!
