What is the difference between Shrink and CA-Compress?

Essentially a name change. Shrink/MVS, Shrink/IMS, and Shrink/DB2 were renamed in 1993 to SAMS:Compress for MVS, IMS, and DB2 respectively to group them in the Sterling Software SAMS family of Storage Management software. When Computer Associates acquired Sterling Software, they became CA-Compress. During that time the products have certainly evolved. CA-Compress for MVS now supports Physical Sequential Transparency and IBM Hardware Compression, and many other changes have been made for ease of use and maintainability, but it is a single evolving product.
