What is the difference between shakes and shingles?
Traditionally shakes were split and shingles were taper sawn. Our cedar shakes are taper sawn to a 24″ length, and retain the heavy 1″ butt typical of shakes. Shingles are also sawn but are shorter with thinner butts. We manufacture two sizes of shingles 18″ long with 5/8″ butt and 16″ long with 3/8″ butt.
