What is the difference between Sequential and Random Access FCX files?
A. Sequential compressed files are stored ‘sequentially’ with no spaces, resulting in the smallest possible file. This means that the file has to be read from start to finish in order to find an individual file within the FCX file. This type of file is especially suited to file transfer. In Random Access compressed files, a directory is maintained of every file within the FCX, making the file slightly larger, but providing faster access. This type of file is especially suited to online archiving. FCX can produce both types of files.
