What is the difference between selecting items and selecting records?
In the normal display mode, selecting items is a matter of selecting columns, and selecting records is a matter of selecting rows or lines in the display. We don’t use that terminology because it is always possible to Toggle to the “rowwise” display in which both items and records are displayed on successive, annotated rows. Whether a given variable is selected using records or items depends on how the file has been structured.
