What is the difference between sealing and expungement?
When a criminal history is sealed, the general public does not have access to it. Certain governmental or related entities will still have access to sealed records in their entirety. When a record has been expunged, those entities which would have access to your sealed record will be informed that the subject of the record has had a record expunged but would not have access to the record itself without a court order. A record generally becomes eligible to be expunged only after it has been sealed for ten years. However, in some circumstances a record can be immediately sealed, please contact my office for more details.
