What is the difference between sea salt and common table salt?
Sea salt contains trace minerals from the waters where it was collected. The quantity of trace minerals differ between the various regions where sea salt is harvested therefore contributing to the differences in taste between the many sea salts available to you. These trace minerals are known to contribute to your good health. Common table salt is stripped of trace minerals during its refinement process. To make the crystals free flowing, anti-caking agents such as sodium ferrocyanide, yellow prussiate of soda, tricalcium phosphate, calcium silicate, or sodium aluminosilicate may be added to common table salt. Because of its intensity, when using sea salt remember to use less than you would table salt. At For J’s Hawaii, we use sea salt harvested from the Pacific Ocean. Our gourmet sea salt does not contain anti-caking agents.
