What is the difference between salsa and picante?

Salsa just means sauce. Picante means spicy as in hot. A salsa picante is a hot sauce. Salsa also known as pico de gallo is a topping or garnish for other foods. Chopped tomatoes, peppers onions etc., spiced with lime juice, garlic and cilantro. You can pretty much put it on anything. Like steak or baked potatoes or any kind of Mexican food like tacos or refried beans. I like it as a topping on hummus on pita bread. Today I bought a Cajun Crab dip at the store. Spread that on whole wheat pita bread and topped with hot salsa. Yummy stuff. Try it on pasta too. I use that corkscrew stuff (rotelli). Top it with salsa, the refrigerator stuff (if you don’t make your own) not the kind in a jar.
