A. Traditionally ‘smart’ or ‘intelligent’ pigs use ultrasonic or magnetic flux leakage principles to inspect a pipeline. SAAM is very different in concept. SAAM is an enclosed cylinder of electronics, which is deployed within standard cleaning or utility pigs. SAAM inspects the pipeline by measuring the way its carrier cleaning pig travels down the line.
