What is the difference between registration and enrolment?
“Registering” means that the Ministry considers your child a “homeschooler” and requires only that you provide him or her with an educational program. This “program” does not have to follow Provincial Learning Outcomes. The Ministry does not require any accountability for “homeschoolers” so they do not provide any funding. Schools that register homeschoolers receive a very small sum from the Ministry ($250 for a public school, $175 for an independent school like ours) for administrative costs. Some schools give a portion of this money back to the homeschoolers. At Regent Christian Online Academy we offer $150 through a Purchase Order system to support your educational plans for each “homeschooled” student we have registered with us, plus one hour of consultation with our curriculum coordinator. “Enrolling” in a DL program means that the Ministry considers your child a full-time (or for K, a half-time) student. The basic premise of registration is to grant a certificate to an entity in such a manner as to ensure that only a specific and unique entity can be associated with the certificate. This is called the Registration process. The prospective certificate holder is asked to choose a username, password, and recovery secret and is in turn issued a certificate and his Certificate ID. Once a certificate has been received by an individual, they can proceed with the program enrolment step. The certificate holders supported by the online registration system will need to identify themselves to each application that they wish to do business with. This is accomplished by satisfying one or more enrolment processes. Each application or group of applications possesses unique information on its own user base that can be used to accurately determine the identity of that user and perform an enrolment.
