What is the difference between really liking and loving a person?

Sacrifice. You can like someone without being committed to them or caring more about them then yourself. Love means you genuinely care about the person and act in their best interests even when the emotions aren’t there. It’s not just an emotion, but knowledge of how much the person means to you that results in an active commitment and choices consistent with doing what is in the best interests of the other person BECAUSE you care about them, even if at the expense of your own wellbeing. Love is patient, kind, longsuffering, not self-seeking/self-gratifying, etc… In short, love puts another person at the same level as oneself, if not higher. True love means you are not only willing to die for the person, but even to live for them, even if that means drawn out torture or poverty on their behalf. Simply looking up to a person, liking them, will only go so far. Once you’re called to really sacrifice yourself and your interests for them, then you see whether you just like them or whether
