What is the difference between real Temple Jewelry and imitation (artificial) Temple Jewelry?

0

The most common and affordable Temple Jewellery is made of Brass alloys and then plated with Silver and Gold polish over it. This is less expensive and suitable for most of the young and adult performers who don’t want spend more, but would like to have an authentic looking jewellery set. This jewely sets have Red and Green Kemp stones which looks like Ruby and Emerald. If maitained properly, this imitation Jewellery set will last for several years. The real Temple Jewellery is made of pure silver and coated with 18 – 22 Karat Gold over it. This is expensive when compared to the price of imitation (artificial) temple jewellery. The real Temple jewelry is very light (compared to imitation jewelry) as it is made of Silver.

There are a couple of things I want to add.

As the article says above, the base of real temple jewellery is Silver. The silver base is first plated with 21Ct Gold. After the chemical process of plating, Kemp stones are sticked to the base using tree based glue which is commonly known as "arrack" in southern part of India. All this process are manual and the real temple jewelry is 100% hand made. There will be gaps between the Kemp stones and the silver base once the "arrack" is dried and it doesn’t look very nice. The next process is to hide the gaps and improve the aesthetical look of the temple jewelry. The artisans insert thin flakes of real Gold in these gaps. Once finished, the jewelry looks like it is made of Gold fully. You will see small irregularities hence it is fully hand made. Please see this video to see the process.
