What is the Difference Between Rats and Mice?
Well, they may be in the same family, but there is very little the same about them. The most obvious difference is size. Rats are much bigger than mice. This makes them a lot easier to find if they escape. They are also huggable and a lot less fragile, so it makes them, in my opinion, a better first pet idea for a child. Of course, the downside to size is that rats require bigger cages and more food. The cages can be expensive unless you can find one used or build your own. But compared to a cat or dog, rats are very inexpensive. Rats usually live about twice as long as mice. Male mice cannot be kept with other males, whereas male rats thrive on companionship and get along with other males as well as the females do. Mice have a strong odor, especially males. They need their cages cleaned more often, and will still have a mousey odor.
