what is the difference between ram & memory??
Hi, RAM is Random Access Memory, when buying a computer, RAM is important to take into consideration. RAM is what allows computer programs to run at a very fast rate. Random data for programs is stored on RAM, like the images on this particular webpage. RAM is used for reasons like this because you get faster ‘read’ speeds from the RAM as opposed to just the ‘memory’ (which is ROM or the hard drive). When a program writes data to RAM, it can be quickly re-accessed (from a small pool of information), now for example if the computer wrote that same program data onto the hard drive, it would take longer to search the entire harddrive’s pool of memory for that particular piece of data. When purchasing a computer, i would recommend one with 2gb RAM and 500gb memory. This is a great starting point when purchasing a new computer (unless you are like me and do a lot of computationally intensive tasks, you wont need 8gb DDR3 RAM and 1.
It depends on who is really asking, but for the most part, nothing. RAM = Random Access Memory ROM = Read-Only Memory VM = Virtual Memory CM = Cache Memory In the end it comes down to this: RAM is one type of memory. It may just be one type, but for the most part it is what you are talking about when you say “memory”, because is the most often needed and asked about.
