In B.C psychologists are licensed by the College of Psychologists of British Columbia, whose role is to regulate the practice of psychology in the best interests of the public. Psychiatrists work within a medical framework and will have trained as a doctor first and then specialized in Psychiatry. Only Psychiatrists and Medical Doctors can prescribe medication. Psychiatrists are regulated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
