What is the difference between Precalculus, Applied and Consumer Math?
PreCalculus studies theory, number sense, algebra, trigonometry to the nth degree with some use of technology and problem solving. Applied Math studies how we apply mathematical theory without having to derive the theory. There is an intense use of technology and problem solving. Consumer Math studies how we use Mathematics in many different job related fields of work. The focus is on problem solving in the business world where algebra and number sense is needed but in an applicational way not a theoretical way. Students learn about; budgeting, paying their income tax, using Math in construction and using Math in other practical ways.
