PPTP is essentially encrypted PPP. PPP allows you to tunnel across a point to point link. Good points: Windows, OS X, iPhone will work out of the box, Easy to configure. Bad points: Early Microsoft’s implementation has been criticized for being poorly designed and not particularly secure, More over, Easy to block. OpenVPN is a Open Source project that tunnels traffic using SSL in TCP or UDP. Good points: Flexible (TCP or UDP and proxy support), Harder to block, More Secure. Bad points: Need to install software, Harder to configure then PPTP.
