PPO _ choose any Dr that accepts the insurance pay your 20%(or whatever percentage is listed on your card) at the time of appointment. File claim for payment of balance. Some Dr’s will require you pay in full and charge back to your PPO for reimbursement. Pay discounted price for meds. (again may need to pay in full and be reimbursed) HMO_ Choose Dr from list of participating partners pay copay at time of appointment, usually between $10 -25, listed on your card and pay quoted amount from card for prescriptions. PPO’s are fine if you rarely have need of medical care and do not participate in sports which may increase need for urgent care. HMO’s are better for consistency of care and if you have families since children need more consistent care and are more likely to have several visits a year to a Dr for inoculation or injury. Hope this helped!
