There are two types of source pollution; Point source and non-point source. Simply put, point source (PS) is a single location, easily traced, whereas non-point source (NPS) is harder to find, and harder to prove from where it emanates. A point source pollution situation could be a catch basin in one’s driveway where paint brushes or car oil has been deliberately poured into, causing the pollutant to flow throughout the system, eventually discharging either into a creek or a beach environment. A non-point source pollutant could be several cars dripping oil onto the street, which slowly washes into the catch basins on the side of the road.
