What is the difference between petroleum , crude oil, gas9gasoline) and natural gas?

This is the “simple” answer. Petroleum and crude oil are the same thing. What most people don’t undertand is that crude oil is actually a mixture of many different products including gasoline. So you have to take the crude oil to a refinery to refine it to separate out the different value-added products. One of the highest value products given transportation demand is gasoline. That is what you put in your car. Other products that come out of crude oil include: diesel, kerosene/jet fuel, heating oil, asphalt/tar. Natural gas is a gas that comes out of the ground. It is formed from the same dead animal/plant material that crude oil comes from. One way to think about natural gas is that it is crude oil that has been “cooked” in the ground under high temperatures and pressures over a long period of time to become natural gas.
