NTSC and PAL are different TV formats used in different areas. NTSC is used in North America and a few other regions, and has a frame rate of just under 30 Hz. PAL is used in much of Europe and many other areas around the world; it has more vertical scan lines and a frame rate of 25 Hz. The model you buy should be based on which TV standard is used where you live. If your area uses a different standard, Sony may be able to suggest the appropriate model for your TV.

pal is the uk version of the system and ntsc is the american and canadian. you can’t play a pal disc with a ntsc ps3 if that helps or vise versa.
