What is the difference between orienteering and rogaining?
Orienteering is a family of sports that require navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain. Participants are given a map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. While Rogaining is the sport of long distance cross-country navigation. Championship Rogaines are 24 hours long, however Rogaines can be as short as 2 hours. Teamwork, endurance, competition and an appreciation for the natural environment are features of the sport.
