WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONLINE LEARNING AND DISTANCE LEARNING?
Online Learning is an evolution of what was formerly known at BCCC as Distance Learning. Whereas 10 years ago Distance Learning courses were mainly telecourses and print/correspondence courses, as the Internet has grown, the use of online tools in instruction has also. The vast majority of BCCC courses use the Internet and those that do are categorized as web-enhanced face-to-face, Hybrid, or eLearning.
Online learning is when a course can be accessed through an online learning platform. At CSU our online platform is Blackboard which CSU has called RamCT. RamCT provides user-friendly access to course materials, discussion groups, assignments, exams, and other learning services. Distance learning is when the primary course curriculum is not delivered online but requires additional media such as DVDs, VCDs, CD-ROMs, or other media to provide class materials and/or course enhancement. Most distance courses use RamCT to some extent to provide interaction with students and faculty.
Online learning is a highly motivational and interactive experience with frequent contact between your tutors, supervisor and fellow participants. This unique and innovative design ensures that the programme is far removed from the more traditional ‘lonely long distance learner’ courses of old.
