At UK Law, a candidate who has been placed “on hold” has been reviewed at least once but no final decision has been made: upon further review, that candidate may be admitted, denied admission or invited to go on the alternate list. A candidate on the alternate list has been reviewed and the Committee’s final decision is that while the candidate probably could be successful at UK Law, they are not as competitive as those candidates already selected for admission. However, over the summer as some candidates selected for admission decide not to attend, additional candidates may be admitted to the entering class from those on the alternate list. If a candidate is selected for the alternate list at the Admissions Committee’s final meeting in April, they will be notified of such and given the opportunity to decide whether they want to be included on the alternate list to be notified of any openings over the summer.
