What is the difference between objecting to the settlement and excluding myself from the Settlement Class?

Objecting is simply telling the Court that you do not like something about the Settlement. You can only object if you stay in the Settlement Class. Excluding yourself is telling the Court that you do not want to be part of the Settlement Class. If you exclude yourself, you have no basis to object because the case no longer affects you. If you neither exclude yourself nor object, you cannot later challenge the Settlement by appeal or in any other way. You will be bound by the Settlement Agreement if the Court finally approves it.
