What is the difference between objecting to a settlement and opting out of a settlement?
You may object to a settlement if you remain in the settlement but disagree with some aspect of the settlement. An objection allows your views to be heard in Court. In contrast, opting out means that you are no longer part of the settlement and that you do not want to be subject to the settlement’s terms and conditions. Once you opt out, you lose any right to object to the settlement, because the settlement will no longer affect you.
