What is the difference between NTFS and FAT32 and which one should I use with Windows 2000?
FAT32 is a file system as is NTFS. If you are a NT guru then you know that NTFS is the preferred file system. If you use Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98 you know that your system is using FAT32. The reason that Windows 2000 is supported for use on both is because certain people want the extra security while some people do not. NTFS contains very strong security that is very hard to bypass. Where as FAT32 is very insecure but faster then NTFS. Win9x users MAY want to stick with FAT32. Anyone who wants extra security should go with NTFS. Currently I am using NTFS and have had no problems. And since the Windows 2000 setup program steps you through everything, Converting or formatting the drive is as easy as flipping a light switch.
