Novice is a competitor who has never competed before or has competed and not placed 1st in a legitimate national or international competition at a beauty show. A veteran is a competitor who has placed 1st in a legitimate national or international competition at a beauty show. Once a novice competitor has placed 1st, he or she moves up to the veteran division.
