It may be counter-intuitive, but regional accreditation is the gold standard. Regional accreditation associations have been around the longest. All state universities and ivy league schools have regional accreditation and therefore meet the standards of a quality higher education. There are some national accreditation associations that are commonly accepted, but regional accreditation is generally more important.
