What is the difference between MPEG-2 AAC and MPEG-4 AAC ?
A. MPEG-4 AAC has all the tools and functions of MPEG-2 AAC plus the Perceptual Noise Substitution (PNS) tool, a Long Term Predictor (LTP) as well as extensions to support scalability. Therefore all MPEG-4 AAC decoders can decode MPEG-2 AAC bitstreams, and conversely MPEG-2 AAC decoders can decode MPEG-4 AAC bitstreams if none of the MPEG-4 extensions are signalled.
