What is the difference between monologue and soliloquy in drama?
A soliloquy is an exposition of a character’s thoughts directly. It’s as if the character is speaking out his/her thoughts. A monologue is a dialogue without the second character. In other words, the main character speaks as if a second character is present and he/she is addressing this imaginary character. Often, the audience is turned into this second character and the main character addresses it directly.
Monologue: a long uninterrupted speech by one character OR a performance by a comedian in which a set of jokes or humorous stories following each other without a break are told. Soliloquy: the act of speaking while alone, especially when used as a theatrical device that allows a character’s thoughts and ideas to be conveyed to the audience.
