What is the difference between modular homes versus double-wide homes?
Double wides or single wides is another name for mobile homes that you find in mobile home parks. Another name for them is HUD housing related to the Federal housing department. They are also constructed in a factory setting with lesser demands for strength energy efficiency or quality. The are transported in a steel frame with wheels attached. When they arrive at the site the wheels are removed and they are set on a somewhat temporary foundation. The can be moved fairly easy because the floor of the mobile home is one and the same with the trailer. Just install the wheels hook up the truck and go. Most of the double/single wides are targeted for low income areas, they are not allowed in quite a few States and Towns. Financing is also difficult with mobile homes. Assembly is easier than modular homes. Just remove the tires and hook up the utilities. You can only construct a single story home with mobile homes and not a two story.
