What is the difference between mitotic and meiotic cell division?

0

duplication of DNA occurs in both the cases but mitosis is equational division and meiosis is reductional division. In mitosis diploid cells are formed and in meiosis haploid cells are formed. For eg a cell is diploid having 2x ploidy then in both process duplication take place and genetic material becomes 4x then 4 mitosis two cells are formed with ploidy 2x same as parent cell but in case of meiosis four cells are formed and their ploidy is x that is half of parent cell. DONT CONFUSE WITH HAPLOID AND DIPLOID SEE DIPLOID CAN BE 2X,4X,6X………AND THEIR HALF IS CALLED HAPLOID WHICH IS X,2X,3X………….
