What Is The Difference Between Metallic Bond And Ionic Bond?

0

The bond forms due to the delocalized electrons of atoms of similar element is called metallic bond. In metallic bond, atoms lose all the electrons from their outer most shell. These delocalized electrons bound the positive charge and can move freely in a metallic bond. Metallic compounds conduct electricity due to the presence of free electrons present in them. When an atom loses electrons completely, then these electrons are gained by another atom. As a result, two ions are formed including negative ions and positive ions. These ions combine to form a bond, known as ionic bond. Ionic compounds don’t conduct electricity. Moreover, ionic compounds behave like a conductor in molten and solution form.
