What is the difference between mental skills development and sport psychology consulting?
• Sport psychology consulting is in response to people who know they are facing a mental block or challenge detracting from their performance. First, we meet, discuss and listen in order to discover the issue. Then, we work to change the behavior and get the athlete back on track. Although this is considered sport psychology consulting, we might also be teaching a mental skill during this process. • Mental skills development takes a proactive approach. Through mental skills development programs, we teach athletes important mental skills that will help them to be successful in their sport. It is a process. These skills, like any other skill, may take time to master. Our primary goal is to provide these skills before you get to the competitive arena so that you can understand the skills, apply them, and over time master them.
