What is the difference between memory foam and ordinary foam?
A. Memory foam is heat sensitive. It feels firm when it is cold and soft when it is warm. Polyurethane foam does not have the ability to respond to temperature. It feels the same in a warm or cold environment. Memory foam also has pressure-relieving properties. If you push your hand into its surface it will leave an impression for several seconds after you remove your hand. This ability to remember gives rise to the name “Memory foam”. Ordinary (Polyurethane) foam regains its original shape immediately after your hand has been removed, it has no memory at all. Because of its unique formulation memory foam has the ability to absorb downward forces as well as creating very little upward pressure. This is best demonstrated by observing the different result obtained when a heavy item like a large ball bearing is dropped on to the surface of both memory foam and polyurethane foam. Drop the same object on a memory foam mattress and it will land with a dull thud without a noticeable bounce because the memory foam has absorbed virtually all of the downward force of the object.
