What is the difference between memory and ram?
Generally, there are two types of memory on the computer, the hard disk, where you store all your software (programs), including the Windows operating system and also your own files – music, pictures, documents, in fact anything you create. The other type, RAM, is what the computer uses to work things out. Sort of like a working memory. Whatever is in the RAM disappears when you switch the computer off, unlike the hard disk which should (unless you have a serious problem! retain ) everything. Generally the thing which makes the most difference to the computer speed is the size of the processing chip – you have probably seen words like AMD Athlon, Intel Pentium 4, Turion etc bandied around. These often come in different GMHz sizes. However a Pentium 4 with a 2.8GHz might be slower than an Intel Core duo with a 1.7Ghz processor. eg The size of the RAM will make a differerence to the speed but not as much as the processor. It is particularly important to have a lot of RAM when either you
