What is the difference between membership, agency fee, and fair share?

0

All classified employees working for the Coast Community College District, excluding management, supervisory, and confidential employees, are automatically members of the bargaining unit and pay a service fee to the union, referred to as Agency Fee. Each year, Agency Fee payers are given an opportunity to select to pay a reduced fee, which covers only the costs of doing business on behalf of the entire bargaining unit. This reduced fee is referred to as Fair Share. Finally, members of the bargaing unit are encouraged to join and support the union, which is referred to as Union Membership. Membership in the union builds provides many benefits to union members and creates a stronger base from which negotiate the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
